Toy Place GERMAN - Kalaha

Kalaha is an African tactical game that is considered to be one of the oldest games in the world. It is traditionally played on a wooden board with several hollows and 72 beautiful natural stones.

First, the players take a seat on the long side of the wooden board and divide the stones into the 6 small hollows per player. The two large hollows - also called Kalaha - initially remain empty. The youngest player starts by taking all the stones from any hollow on his side and placing one stone in each of the following hollows. In doing so, his own hollows as well as those of his teammate and his own Kalaha are filled.

If the last token is placed in your own Kalaha, you get another turn. Gradually the hollows empty and the stones move into the players' Kalahas. If the last stone lands in one of your empty hollows, this stone and also the stones in the opposing hollows of the opponent may be placed in your own Kalaha. In the end, the player who has collected the most stones in his Kalaha wins.
